Dear Parents,

Play Trail
As many of you would have seen or heard from the children, the new play trail is nearing completion. This will provide a fantastic facility for the children over many years. Great thanks need to go to the PTA who have worked tirelessly to make this project a reality but we also need to thank 'Westlands' and other significant contributors. The staff and governors are thrilled by this development.

Class Assemblies

Class 6 - 6th February
Class 5 - 27th February
Class 4 - 6th March
Class 3 - 13th March
Class 2 - 20th March
Class 1/R - 27th March

Class assemblies take place on Friday afternoons and are usually scheduled for 2.30pm. I extend a welcome to all who wish to attend their child's assembly but encourage you to confirm the exact timing of each assembly with Sandra McVeigh one day prior to the date.

Website

Please visit our website www.standrewsyetminster.org.uk from which you can access Tesco and many other stores to make your on line purchases or to buy school uniform. Doing this directly raises money for our school through the 'affiliates' scheme. To date we have raised well over £300.

The website is, however, far more than simply a money raiser. It is a vibrant and exciting insight into the life of our school and through its regular use you can avail yourself of important 'newsletters' or 'school news' which may have been lost in transit between home and school.

Don't forget to use the Contact Us link to give feedback about the site.

Cinderella Rockerfella

Now out on DVD!
If you enjoyed our fabulous Xmas production of Cinderella Rockerfella, then you'll be pleased to learn that - for a limited period only - copies of the new DVD are now available. Please collect a form from Mr Hall.

Early Arrivers

May I take this opportunity to ask again that pupils other that 'bus or taxi children' should not arrive at school before 8.30am. I am on duty during the 8.15-8.30 am period and, if contacted, am always willing to welcome early arrivers in the event of an unexpected emergency.
You may sign your child into our Early Arrivers' Group (7.30- 8.30 am) by contacting Sandra McVeigh.

Coats

Please make sure you bring a well labelled coat to school everyday.

Music Tuition

Please note that Mrs Dickerson our new piano teacher has space for new children wishing to take up the piano. Also there are some spaces available for flute/saxophone/clarinet and keyboard.

Education Sunday

On Sunday 1st March there will be a service of Holy Communion at St Andrew's Church at 10 am. All welcome to celebrate the work of the school.

Early Warning 'phone tree' system

In the event of a 'school closure' the 'phone tree' would work in this way:-
The school would phone a few nominated key parents who would then be asked to phone a number of other parents living in their area. To set up the 'phone tree' it will be necessary to allow these nominated parents to have selected home phone numbers of others. I would be pleased if you would contact me by 14th January if you prefer this not to happen. The 'phone tree' will, hopefully, be with key parents next week.
Please note that the school will also notify Orchard FM and Ivel FM about school closure and parents are, therefore, advised to listen to broadcasts.

Bus Children

The policy of the Education Transport Department is that if buses do not run in the morning, they will not run in the afternoons- even if the weather improves. If I am notified by one of the bus companies that their buses are not running in the morning, I will be available from about 8am to answer queries.
If parents choose to bring children to school in the morning they must also collect them in the afternoon. When road and weather conditions are 'marginal' it is up to individual bus drivers to decide whether or not to operate as it is felt that each driver is the best judge of what condition are likely to be on his particular route.

In the event of extreme weather during the school day, parents are advised to contact the school to make arrangement for the collection of their children. All pupils will remain in the care of school staff until parents arrive. Please note that, on an occasion such as this, I have decided that no child will travel home by bus in order to avoid the possibility of them arriving home to an empty house.
