Summer Fair, Saturday June 18th, 2.30-5pm
Coming up tomorrow is our annual summer fair, this year given a bit of a twist as the 'St Andrew's Family Fun Day'. There will be loads going on! Pony rides, tug of war, welly wanging, dressing up competitions, rock band Unzipped will be playing, mini crèche and children's area with tepee, hook-a-duck, splat the rat and other fun activities and games. There will also be a hog roast, burgers of the meat and vegetarian variety, a tea tent and a Pimms, beer and cider tent. Furthermore, we will have a tombola, Knock-a can, Egg tray game, lemonade and water game, wine and water game, human fruit machine and a lucky dip. Let's hope for good weather! We look forward to seeing everyone there! Check out posters in and around school and the PTA section on our website for more details.

Sherborne Schools Area Athletics Championship
Well done to our school athletics team, staff and parents who helped with support and transport. Harry (Y5) came third in the long jump and 150m sprint, Callum H. (Y6) came third in the high jump and hurdles, Alex B (Y5) came third in the 75m, Elena (Y6) came second in the high jump, Ethan (Y5) came second in the hurdles, Josh (Y6) came second in the 75m and Callum S. (Y6) came first in the long jump. A great achievement by all who took part.

Eco Day
Another great Eco day happened this week, organised by Mrs Locke and Miss Coysh. Our children worked on maintaining their class vegetable gardens and the conservation area, building bug hotels, learning about the environment, making hurdles (fencing) for our iron age house and using our rural setting as the foundation and inspiration for a range of writing. The art in Chestnut that I saw based on Arcimboldo, an Italian artist, was spectacular. Check out the website. Special thanks to Mrs Murphy and Mr Dowding, Mum and Grandad of Tilly and Nancy, who have cleared the area around the iron age house and given masterclasses in the ancient skill of hurdle making.

New dates
Please check the date list below - new events include the swimming gala on July 14th, the Year 6 show (Roald Dahl's Little Red Riding Hood) on the afternoon of July 14th and the evening of July 18th.

Year 6 Leaver's Photographs
During the week of 20th - 24th June (not 23rd as it's induction day at the Gryphon) Mrs Anna Taylor, a photographer, is coming into school to take the Year 6 photos. Please could the Y6 children bring in the clothes they wish to be photographed in on Monday so the children can be photographed outside when the weather permits. Following this there will be an opportunity to buy the photos.

Year 6 PGL trip
A letter will be sent shortly asking for medical, dietary and swimming information. Could you please return this to school by Thursday. Next Friday (24th June) we will have a meeting after school to discuss arrangements for the trip. We look forward to seeing you there. If you are unable to make it, please ring school to check on any arrangements or questions you may have.

Swimming
Unfortunately we have to cancel swimming for one week only on Tuesday, 21st of June.

Hot school meals
Our hot school meals continue to be a roaring success - if you would like them they cost £2.15 daily. You can buy as many or as few as you want. Please book through the office.

Pick-up after school
Could everyone who drops off and picks up their children by car please remember to keep clear of the yellow lined area throughout the drop off / pick up period. I do realise that the buses / taxis and mini buses are usually finished by certain times, but sometimes they are delayed / late and need access outside of the normal time and it does create significant delay and adds to the risk if there are private vehicles parked in the yellow zone. Please feel free to park in the staff spaces if any are free. Thankyou for your understanding in this matter.

School uniform sale
Remember - you are able to buy items of school uniform outside of sale dates - please ask at the office.

Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers
We are still actively and enthusiastically collecting vouchers from Tesco and Sainsburys to buy ICT, sports and play equipment. All donations gratefully received. Let's try and make this a record breaking year. Tesco's need to be in by 27th June so we can send them in ourselves.

Remember - we have fantastic early morning breakfast provision!
Angela Hole and Daphne Blakey run our welcoming and fun Breakfast Club. The price is £3 for care after 7.30am up to school opening at 8.30am, £3.50 includes breakfast. Ring school on 01935 872430 or ask Sandra or myself in the office. Also, if you are unable to book, don't worry - you can bring your child to Breakfast Club with no notice if required. Look forward to seeing you.

Reading and phonics
As part of our ongoing work to support parents in helping their children to learn to read we felt it would be useful to you to take part in one of our phonic sessions with your child. These sessions take place daily from 1.10pm to 1.30pm. If you are interested please speak to me in the morning to check that our phonic session will be taking place as normal.
If you are interested in listening to readers either first thing in the morning or at the end of the day we would love to hear from you. A big thank you to all our existing helpers and to everyone for listening to their child / children read on a daily basis at home.
