Dear Parents, 14th January 2008

I am writing to outline the role of St Andrew's in ensuring that a full range of 'extended' opportunities is available in line with current government 'core offer' policy.

This 'core offer' focuses on 'childcare and a varied menu of activities', 'parenting support', 'community use of school premises' and 'swift and easy access to services'.

Childcare and a varied menu of activities: The school already has a breakfast and early arrivers' group and seeks to provide a wide range of after school activities. 'Lower Covey' continues to provide excellent after school care and extends this into the holidays sometimes using school facilities.
From April 1st 2008 the current Wriggle Valley Pre School will come under the management of the school and we hope to build and strengthen this day care provision for the future well-being of all our children.

Parenting Support: We are always anxious to support the parent group and see this as a vital element of educating the child. Our parent consultations are extremely well attended as are other important school events. Induction sessions are well planned to provide valuable information and opportunity for contact as the child starts school. We also support parental dealings with outside agencies in a measured and fully confidential manner.

Community Use: We have always sought to offer the use of our facilities and resources for community use where practicable. We have good relations with local groups and are able to host the Parish Council meetings and let our hall facilities for 'keep fit' and 'dance'. We work closely with the local churches and have, before its closure by Dorset County Council, hosted the local Youth Club.

Swift and Easy Access: We are about to embark on training regarding the 'Common Assessment Form' and this will build upon our current procedures for ensuring early identification of, and support and intervention for, pupils with additional needs. Opportunities for parents to meet the school nurse have been in place and can provide swift and easy access regarding any aspect of a pupil's medical needs.

I would be very grateful if, after reading this short summary, you could fill in and return the form below for our records.

Many thanks
