| September 9th 2011 Dear Parents, Welcome back to a new school year! I hope you all had a great summer. I am really looking forward to getting to know you and your children having received such a warm welcome at St Andrews. We have a busy and exciting term ahead. Here are the main areas we will be covering this term:- English - Stories from other cultures, report writing and poetry. Maths - Securing number facts, calculating, handling data and understanding shape. ICT - Investigating simulations, and combining text and graphics. Science - Y4 Electricity and forces, Y3 Materials and their properties. RE - The Christian faith in Tudor times. SEAL - New beginnings, getting on and falling out. Art - Tudor art. PE - Invasion games, dance and gymnastics. DT - Picture frames. Humanities - Tudor Britain. Children will generally be given one piece of written homework each week which will be set on Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday. This will usually alternate between Maths and English and reinforce what we have been doing in class. In addition, Spellings or Times Tables will be sent home and tested weekly (days TBC). Regular home reading is an essential part of your child's learning. This year we are introducing new reading journals which we will send home with more information soon. Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle (not squash or juice please) to school each day as hydration is really important for effective learning. Children can bring fresh or dried fruit, or vegetables for morning snack time if they wish. PE/Games are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please ensure kits are in school and usable. So that we can make the best use of the field, trainers are preferable to plimsoles. Parents evenings will be held later this term so I look forward to meeting with you then; in the meantime please do not hesitate to see me if you have any questions or just want to say hello. Best wishes, Miss M Wall Chestnut class teacher |
