MAKING CERAMIC GREEK BOATS WITH CLASS 5

After making a paper template we rolled out the clay and using the it cut out the pieces of our boats.

We had to make sure that the clay pieces fitted together properly otherwise out boats would leak!

When we were happy with the "fit" we attached the sides to the bottom using slip.

We had to create a mast support using a lump of clay.

We carefully cut out, decorated and attached the shields to the hull of the Argo.

The boats were left to air dry for a week before they were fired in the kiln and glazed.

You will notice that we decorated the hukk with an eye at the bow so that the ship can "see" where it is going.

We attached the mast and attached a card sail. Doesn't it look magnificent.
