INVESTIGATING BATIK TECHNIQUES |
|
We have been looking at how tradional batiks are made..
 ..and at contemporary designs.
Firstly we treated pieces of white cotton to different forms of resist...
 ...flour paste, white wax...
 ...easi-batik fluid and tieing.
The flour paste was very effective..
 ..as was the easi-batik.
We used 3 pure dyes - cyan (turquoise), magenta (pink) and yellow.
These colours were added to the cotton...
...and we got a wonderful array of patterns...
...and shades of colours. Leon's look particularly effective..
..and Dylan's showed some interesting blending.
Maddie was very sensible in that she used the same design across the different types of resist. The one bottom left used none.
 Here are some other examples...
..I especially like this one treated with the flour resist...
...and this one with the easi-batik.
These colours are truly gorgeous and will help us when we go on to..
..design our cushion covers inspired by the ...
 ...tropical paradise of St Lucia.
 Don't these look stunning
