BREAD INVESTIGATION AND MAKING IN DESIGN TECHNOLOGYWe have been investigating bread shapes and making our own in salt dough. We also made a beautiful Wheat Stack out of real read dough for our Harvest Festival. This week we have been tasting a variety of breads to see which ones we like best. This will help us decide whay kind of bread we are going to design and make.
AFRICAN ARTS WEEKSWe have been having great fun this week making lots of exciting things.
We have also been writing some fantastic poems on Africa; listen to these.

ROMAN DAYAll of the Junior classes came as Romans. We made scrummy honey cakes and honey toast, mosaics, sang latin songs, learnt how to use Roman numerals, performed plays... Too much to write here. Check out the photos to get a flavour of our day.
Celtic BritainDuring the Spring Term we are learning about the effects of the Roman Invasion. The children spent time soaking up the atmosphere of our rounhouse before planning, sketching and painting their interpretations of pre-Roman Britain. I'm sure you'll agree they made an excellent effort. Well done everyone.
BAKING BICCIES IN DESIGN TECHNOLOGY.We had the delicious task this term of investigating (which involved a good deal of tasting), designing and then baking our own designer cookies. I have to say there was a common theme running through them. Can you get what it is?
TEAMWORKOne of the most important things we learnt during our residential at Leeson was working together as a team. "Together we stand-divided we fall!"
WE ARE OFF TO LEESON HOUSEWaving Class 5 off to a very exciting week in Lesson, Langton Matravers. Have a lovely time; wish we wre coming with you!
HATCHING CHICKSWe have had an incubator in our classroom for the last three and a half weeks. We had thirty five eggs and were hoping for about 80% of them to hatch (that's the average success rate). Much excitement ensued as the chicks began emerging at twenty days. By the third day the class were overjoyed with thirty fluffy chicks. 86% success! Yes!
SCIENCE WEEK JUNE 18-22 2007We spent a week investigating the theme of flight as well as having visits from the planetarium, some secondary school teachers and some student teachers. We went to At Bristol. Look at the pictures. You can find out more about the Science week on the whole school Special events and the Activities gallery.
Some of our work in LiteracyThe children learn the features of a wide variety of genres as part of the daily literacy lessons. We recently looked at non-chronological report writing. The children chose from the themes of wolves, cats, foxes or bears. The internet and library were used for research. After the information had been gathered the class organised their notes into headings before putting together detailed reports for the animals of their choice.
ENVIRONMENTAL ARTWORKWhilst at Leeson House the children collected various natural objects which were then used creatively in school.
CLASS 5 MAKING MUSICWe have been investigating musical instruments and then designing and making our own. Have a look
LEESON HOUSE RESIDENTIALWe had a wonderful week at Leeson House. The weather was kind to us and we learnt about the different land uses in the area. Go to Special events to read some of our thoughts on the week.
Investigating the features of our local village, YetminsterIn geography we are comparing the features of our local village, Yetminster with those of Swanage, a coastal town in Dorset which we will be visiting during our stay at Leeson House in March.
ARCHAEOLOGY DAYPoole Museum worked with us for an afternoon to help us find out how archaeologists discover the past through arterfacts. We had lots of fun piecing together a pot, trying to work out some mystery items and searching through the sawdust to uncover the treasures beneath!
SHARING ASSEMBLYEach week the classes take turns to lead an assembly. We talk about some of the work we have been doing in class and show some to the rest of the school. We made string telephones and talked about sound, maths and some of the writing we have done.
GREEK DAYWe came to school dressed as Ancient Greeks. This was to help us gain a better understanding of some aspects of everyday life in Ancient Greece. We had a great day; making shields, trying food, reading myths and learning to count and write in Greek!
GREEK THEATRE GROUP VISITWe were really thrilled to spend an afternoon working with two actors from Bournemouth Theatre Group. The children had opportunities to improvise their own mini dramas. They also hot seated the actors - one was a rich Athenian and the other a slave. The children took on different roles and discussed how they felt. We also had a chance to try voting; unlike the Greeks who only let certain men vote, all the children had an opportunity to vote and express their opinions. Check out the special events section to read some of the children's views.
HEALTH WEEKAs part of Health Week we had a great time preparing and eating a healthy lunch.
Plant Life CyclesIn class we have been learning about plant life cycles. Part of this work has involved studying ways in which plants disperse their seeds. We spent an afternoon investigating how to make a seed which took the longest time to fall. We learnt that some seeds travel hundreds or thousands of miles! Whereas others only go a short distance.Ours didn't go very far but we had a clear winner!
Salisbury Cathedral DayWe spent a day at the cathedral taking part in several workshops.
