Eco day October 2011We had a fab day full of fun and hard work! Chestnut class learned to identify different plants by their leaves and berries, used chalk and charcoal to sketch some magnificent seed heads, peeled and chopped homegrown apples for a delicious crumble, and spent time in the garden clearing out the beds, collecting seeds and planting bulbs.

Lighthouses in Chestnut ClassWe have been looking at objects that light up such as torches, illuminated signs and lighthouses. There are lots and lots of lighthouses around the world which warn sailors, now and in the past, of the dangers of rocks in the sea. A lighthouse keeper's lot was a lonely one. We chose our favourite lighthouse and made it out of clay. We the attached a simple electric circuit which made a special bulb flash. We also wrote our names in nautical flags and made collages of our lighthouse. We enjoyed this project.

Making storybooks with moving parts in Chestnut ClassChestnut Class have been investigating books with moving parts (pop-up books). We have also been learning techniques such as mouthfolds, boxfolds and flaps so that we will be able to add them to our own books.
We wrote our stories about dragons and our finished storybooks have an assortment of six different moving parts - flaps,mouth folds, box folds, rotators, sliders and springs. We then wrote our own stories and added moving parts to make them more fun. Enjoy watching our short films of our books.

Christmas fabric wreaths in Chestnut ClassAs part of our craft making for the PTA Christmas we made Christmas wreaths our of colourful textiles which we cut into discs and threaded them onto wire.Some choice for have lots of different textures and colours, and others a more formal repeating pattern. I think they look gorgeous and will look super gracing your walls over the festive period.

Chestnut Class have been exploring HabitatsIn Science and Art we have been looking at habitats. In Art we used powder paints to mix various shades of green. After finding out about adaptation we designed a creature that was perfectly adapted to it's habitat.

Christmas cardsThis year we made our cards using Dazzle on the computer. We were inspired by Tudor stained glass windows, and used these for ideas. Our designs are symmetrical. We used our word processing skills to put the greeting inside. I thought that the children's designs were fabulous.

Getting ready for Christmas in Class 4We have been busy getting ready for the festive season. We have made cool reindeer, decorated our classroom using recycled materials, made fab Christmas cards (look out for these in the New Year- don't want to spoil the surprise!) and written poems...
