Our fairy tale homes

Who lives in a house like this?
We designed and built homes for our favourite fairytale characters...

Practising our play in Oak.

Our moving vehicles

We have been designing a moving vehicle in DT! We have thought carefully about the wheels and axles we want to use. We started creating from our designs yesterday and they are coming on nicely! Next week we will continue making our vehicles and starting to paint them and add more detail.

Estimating and measuring in Oak class!

We have been estimating amounts and measuring length this week.We have used decimetre strips and rulers to measure the length of things in our classroom aswell as our feet! We are getting really good at making sensible estimations!

Skating, Sports day and Chinese dragons in Oak class

We had such a fun sports week and loved being China! We took part in lots of sporting activities such as skatinG, trampolining and street dance and had a fantastic sports day! Special thanks to Mrs Gallimore, who made an amazing Chinese dragon for us to parade in and Mr Higson-Guy who organised such a fantastic week! Have a look at our photos to see what we got up to!

Henri Rousseau inspired jungle scenes!

We have been looking at French painter Henri Rousseau. We looked carefully at 'Tiger in a tropical storm' and created our very own clay tigers. We then made habitats for our tigers and created these lovely jungle scenes from cardboard boxes, cellaphane, tissue paper and paint. See if you can spot the Tigers peering through the vines!

World Book Day in Oak class!

On Friday we all came to school dressed as our favourite book characters! We had lots of fun, everyone had a go in the 'hot seat' where we got into character and described ourselves to the class. Later in the day we made bookmarks and did lots of different activities related to our favourite stories. Have a look at the picturs to see if you can spot us in our fancy dress!

Oak Class' Stuffed toys in Design Technology

In DT we have been designing and making our very own stuffed toys. We designed our toys (mostly monsters or animals) and thought about the features we would like our toys to have. We decided that felt would be a good material to work with, and after testing both glue, tape and needle and thread, we decided that sewing would be the best way to join the two pieces! We have almost finished, just a bit of stuffing, sewing and sticking to do! Have a look at the pictures to see how we have been getting on.

What am I? in Oak Class

We have been investigating different materials in Science and have been describing their properties. We had lots of fun putting the materials into groups and recording our findings in a table. Please click 'slideshow' if images do not appear automatically.

Oak Class build it - Our model homes!

We have been building models of our own homes as part of our Build it topic. We used pictures, photos and drawings of our homes to create models and experimented with different ways of joining materials.

Victorian day 2010!

Holly and Oak Class had lots of fun visiting Scraplen's court museum in Poole. We all dressed up in Victorian clothing and even brought our packed lunches in cloths rather than our lunch boxes! When we arrived at the museum we were greeted by Mrs Crumble, a real Victorian lady. We got to explore a Victorian play room and we became real Victorian children in the authentic school room! Miss Trew was very strict, we had our hands inspected for dirt and had to copy the alphabet down on our slates.

Finally we explored downstairs and had lots of activities to complete, such as silver polishing, shoe shining, washing clothes and making pancakes.

We had a great time, thank you to Mrs Locke for organising it all! Have a look at our pictures to see what we got up to!

Inside our Oak classroom

A few pictures of our classroom - more to come...

Using the apparatus in Gymnastics!

In Oak Class we have been having lots of fun in Gymnastics using the apparatus! We thought about different ways to travel across the equipment as well as perfecting our jumps.

Making block graphs in maths to show our favourite foods!

We have been finding out the most popular foods in Oak class and used tally tables to keep track of the information. We used this info in our own pictograms and built a block graph with multi-links to show the results! We even drew our own block graphs in our books, which were very accurate. What do you think our favourite foods were? Brussel sprouts and kidney beans? Have a look...

Wheely fun! 'Action' painting in Oak Class.

We have been looking at another action painter called Ian Cook. He often uses remote controlled cars to paint on a grand scale, dipping each car into paint and applying the colours from a remote control! It is much harder than it sounds! We had a go, using trikes and bikes and have created a collaborative painting!

Oak class explore Jackson Pollock!

We have been looking at paintings by Jackson Pollock who used splatterings of paint and drips and flicks to create bold and bright images! We investigated a new way of making similar pictures using marbles dipped in brightly coloured paints, rolled across sugar paper.
We were very pleased with the results!
Check out the link below to make your own Pollack - each time you click the paint colour changes. Have fun experimenting!
