In Holly Class we are exploring our senses

We have been looking at all our senses. We have been smelling different things. We learnt about sound, wearing blindfolds and following our friend's voices. We tried to block sound out with different materials and made high, low, loud and quiet sounds. We felt vibrations in ballons and from a speaker and watched sound vibrations on clingfilm.
We also experimented with touch and tried to feel with our hands and feet. We felt water of different temperatures and described what we felt. We sorted things that felt rough and smooth and tickled each other with feathers to find out where we felt things the most.

Florence Nightingale

Classes 1 and 2 have been finding out about Florence Nightingale. We have learnt all about her life and the changes that she made to hospitals and nursing.
We had a special day when we all came to school dressed up. The boys came as wounded soldiers and the girls dressed up as Florence Nightingale.
We did lots of role play to help us to learn more about the crimean war and the hospital at Scutari.
The boys were wounded soldiers in Scutari Hospital and the girls were some of Florence Nightingale's nurses. There was a lot for them to do.
We did not think it that it could have been very nice for the wounded soldiers or the nurses.
We also spent the day finding out what it would have been like at school in the Victorian times. The boys and the girls sat separately and we learnt how to write with chalk. We did not use computers all day but we did try some fun activities that the Victorian children might have enjoyed.

The history of homes
