Victorian day at Scaplen Court.

CREATIVITY IN OUR CLASSROOM

We have been doing some super work to adorn the walls of our classroom.

MOTHER NATURE COLLAGE

We collected objects from the environment in the school grounds and arranged them as a picture or pattern. Click on Caitlin's fantastic collage to see the rest.

Books At Bedtime

Reception, Year 1 and 2 had a fun 'Books at Bedtime' evening.
We loved listening to stories in our classrooms. Even the teachers came dressed in their night attire!
The hot chocolate and marshmallows were delicious!
Our teddies enjoyed listening as well!
Class 2 celebrated Shrove Tuesday. We learnt that it was a party day, before the 40 days of lent started. As well as making pancakes with delicious fillings, and having a pancake race, we all made some mardi gras masks.

Science - Making an electrical circuit

Class 2 made electrical circuits to make a light bulb work. We designed a switch to turn the light bulb on and off. We added more bulbs to the circuit and noticed that more bulbs did not burn so brightly.

Florence Nightingale

Classes 1 and 2 have been finding out about Florence Nightingale. We have learnt all about her life and the changes that she made to hospitals and nursing.
We had a special day when we all came to school dressed up. The boys came as wounded soldiers and the girls dressed up as Florence Nightingale.
We did lots of role play to help us to learn more about the crimean war and the hospital at Scutari.
The boys were wounded soldiers in Scutari Hospital and the girls were some of Florence Nightingale's nurses. There was a lot for them to do.
We did not think it that it could have been very nice for the wounded soldiers or the nurses.
We also spent the day finding out what it would have been like at school in the Victorian times. The boys and the girls sat separately and we learnt how to write with chalk. We did not use computers all day but we did try some fun activities that the Victorian children might have enjoyed.

The history of homes

Classes One and Two have been learning all about the history of homes.
