VISITING BRASS QUARTET

We have been lucky enough to have a visit from a Brass Quartet who are touring around schools to inspire children and adults to take up a brass instrument…and wow did they inspire! The musicians were both charismatic and talented and the children loved the theatre that is brought to their playing of such tunes as Teddy Bears' Picnic, William Tell Overture and those Magnificent Men in their flying machines.

CLASS 3 DRUMMERS AT THE LIGHTHOUSE

Over 800 children from all over Dorset will be taking part in the MEGA WOPS experience. About 27 whole class bands that have been experiencing music through learning to play orchestral instruments, percussion, recorders or by singing, will be showing off their achievements to each other at the Lighthouse, Poole on Friday July 4th 2008. They have been part of the programme of Wider Opportunities - Music for All, which Dorset Music Service staff have been delivering. The DMS will continue to deliver this exciting initiative until all KS2 children have experienced playing and instrument with free loan of instruments and tuition for a year, leading to a dramatic increase in the number of Dorset musicians.

On Friday morning each group will play a piece to their peers; they will also join with others of the same discipline to play together and the morning will start and finish with a specially commissioned conceptual piece by Aidan Fisher in which all 800 players will explore the journey from darkness to light in 'The Big Bang'.

RECORDER WORKER

A group of children were lucky enough to be taken by music coordinator, Mrs Alex Locke to an all day recorder worker. The day was invaluable experience for all the children. Watch the video and listen to the recordings below.
