7th November 2005

Dear Parents,

Parents' Evenings

Reply slips with allocated times have now been sent out - if you have not received a slip back for whatever reason then please call the office a.s.a.p. Thank you.

Clubs

Due to Parents' Evenings there will be no Band/Environment/Country
Dancing clubs for the next two weeks and no computer club for three weeks.

School Nurse

The school nurse is here tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. offering a 'Drop in' service for anyone who may need to discuss any aspect of their child's health or well being.

Vouchers

Thank you to everyone who collected Tesco computer vouchers and Sainsbury sports vouchers back in the spring. We have now taken delivery of all the items that we have ordered. The computer vouchers have been used to order two DVD players - we now have DVD/video players in every classroom. We have ordered some remote control vehicles for the older children to use. We now have a portable hard drive, allowing us to undertake multimedia work and have replenished our supply of floppy disks, cd roms and DVDs.

With the Sainsbury vouchers we have purchase four large pop up goals for KS 2 children to use in the playground and two Netball goals for the younger children. We also ordered two buckets of tennis balls and thirty-six all surface balls, for use at playtime and in P.E.

So a big thank you for all the vouchers and keep collecting the current ones.

Christmas plays

Dates to follow within the next week.

Emergency Arrangements

Our early warning 'phone tree' system is in the process of being updated for this school year. In the unlikely event of the school having to be closed due to bad weather etc then the school would phone a few nominated key parents who would then be asked to phone a number of other parents living in their area. This would mean that as many parents as possible can be informed in the unlikely event of any school closure. To set up the 'phone tree' it will be necessary to allow these nominated parents to have selected home phone numbers of others. I would be pleased if you would contact me if you prefer this not to happen.

Bus Children The policy of the Education Transport Department is that if buses do not run in the morning, they will not run in the afternoons - even if the weather improves. If I am notified by one of the bus companies that their buses are not running in the morning, I will be available form about 8 am to answer queries.

If parents choose bring children to school in the morning they must also collect them in the afternoon.
When road and weather conditions are 'marginal' it is up to individual bus drivers to decide whether or not to operate as it felt that each driver is the best judge of what conditions are likely to be on his particular route.

If it necessary to send the bus children and those who walk home early due to bad weather, we will telephone our normal 'village contacts' who have agreed to look after pupils until their parents' return. You will receive your contact list shortly, please check the details and notify Mrs. McVeigh if they are not correct.

All Children. Bearing in mind that the teaching staff will also experience problems travelling to school during bad weather conditions, no child should be left at, or sent to, school on a 'Bad Weather' morning without first checking that there is a member of the teaching staff on the premises. In the event that we have to close the school, the school will notify Orchard FM. The radio station has requested parent non to 'phone in', but listen to broadcast on 1.2.6 FM.
