VISIT BY GOOD KING HAL

We spent the day with King Henry himself who told us all about the life and time of himself and his family. The best bits were learning about crime and punishment.
This is what he says about us!

St Andrew's Junior School, Yetminster
A brand new school today for me. I cannot even begin to remember the last time I had ever been to Yetminster - some good years ago that's for sure. But here I was! Now St Andrew's Junior is a delightful school and I was doing a full Tudor day with years 3, 4, 5 & 6 all in one! A grand total of about 90 children. And they were all such nice kids, in some quite spectacular costumes and full of enthusiasm and laughter. We had a great day!
The teachers were all delightful as well, including a very nice chap who had the good taste and sense to be a mad keen Manchester City fan like myself. I was very upset when the children voted that he should go in the stocks later on.
Yetminster is a beautiful big village/small town, and it also has a very nice village shop where I got my lunch from today. Then back to the afternoon we pushed on with the stocks session and were joined eventually by the rest of the infants who came in to watch the jousting tournament. Some of the little ones found the noise a bit much, but the rest of them joined in with gusto! It was a hard fought contest and it was the gents who finally snatched victory. So the ongoing score is now:
GENTLEMEN 2 - 1 LADIES

VISITING BRASS QUARTET 2008

We have been lucky enough to have a visit from a Brass Quartet who are touring around schools to inspire children and adults to take up a brass instrument…and wow did they inspire! The musicians were both charismatic and talented and the children loved the theatre that is brought to their playing of such tunes as Teddy Bears' Picnic, William Tell Overture and those Magnificent Men in their flying machines.

LEAVERS' CHURCH SERVICE 2008

We had a very moving Leavers' Assembly celebrating our Year 6's music talents and saying goodbye to them, Reverend Ringer who is stepping down as our Chair of Governors and Lucy Witcher, our Class 3 teacher who is moving on to pastures new. We wish them all the best luck in the world for their new ventures.

RAISE1 exhibition of artwork in Sherborne House

We were very proud that artwork from our present Class 6 was exhibited to the public in Sherborne House this April. The artwork on show was a interesting "take" on a famous Cezanne masterpiece - le Chateau Noir - where each child produced a section of the painting using oil pastels. it looked magnificent. Well done Class 6
Paul Cezanne, beside Vincent van Gogh, was the most outstanding figure among the Post-Impressionists. In the sixties and early seventies of the 19th century Cezanne met Impressionists and created under their influence. But he quite quickly moved on from Impressionism. He was fascinated by colour, shape, form. Cezanne's art aimed to be both representational image and invention, objective and subjective, a moment and all eternity, and all this in harmonious equilibrium.
Cezanne, as the Cubism and abstract painting precursor, was the key figure in the transition from 19th -century to 20th-century art.
